A Providence New American Kitchen and Odell Brewery Dinner? Our resident beer and meat man, Kyle Hopkins says, “Oh, hell yeah!”
File this under: “Things I can’t believe I haven’t heard about until right now!”
One week from today Providence New American Kitchen will welcome the great beers of the Odell Brewery into their space in the President Hotel for a beer dinner that sounds pretty outrageous. Providence has always impressed me with their food. Their bison hangar steak with a fried onion ring and poached egg on top is the kind of dish that makes appearances in my dreams. And everything else I’ve ever had there has made me happy — especially their unique takes on desserts.
Next Thursday, their food will be paired with some of the best beers made in the state of Colorado. As a fan of hops, two Odell beers regularly find their way into my shopping cart at the liquor store (yeah, I use a shopping cart when I go to the liquor store; lay off). The first, St. Lupulin, manages to be both amazingly balanced and hop-forward all at once. I give kudos to the folks at Providence for opening the meal with it and I think it will be the ideal way to tickle the palate early in the meal in a bold way. Later, the Myrcenary double IPA makes an appearance. This beer leaves no doubt about the presence of hops. With the kitchen balancing the prominent flavor of hops with fatty foie and the flavors of smoke — adding a touch of citrus — you can be sure that if you attend the dinner you will hear audible moans from my table.
